What Are DTF Transfers?

DTF (direct-to-film) transfers are full-color designs printed onto a special film, coated with adhesive powder, and cured, ready to heat-press onto a garment. Unlike DTG, they work on almost any fabric and color; unlike screen printing, they need no minimums and no per-color setup. A gang sheet packs several designs onto a single sheet to reduce the cost per print.

For all-over polyester sportswear, sublimation is an alternative; for small, simple cutout graphics, heat transfer vinyl (HTV) also works. DTF wins when you need full color on mixed fabrics without minimums.

Fabrics and Durability

DTF transfers press onto cotton, polyester, tri-blends, fleece, canvas, nylon, and denim, light or dark. With proper care (cold wash, inside out, no harsh bleach, no high-heat tumble), prints stay vibrant for 40–50+ washes without cracking, peeling, or significant fading.

How to Apply DTF Transfers

Apply with a heat press. Pre-press the garment to remove moisture, lay the transfer, press, then peel and finish with a cover press.

Pre-Press: 5–10 sec

Temperature: 300–320°F

Press Time: 10–15 sec

Pressure: Medium–firm

Use ~260–270°F for polyester to avoid scorching. Peel per the instructions included with your order, then cover with parchment and press for 10–15 seconds again for extra durability and softness.

What is a DTF gang sheet?

A gang sheet is a single film sheet containing multiple designs (or repeats of a single design). Grouping artwork on one sheet uses the film efficiently and lowers your cost per print, which makes gang sheets the most economical way to order DTF transfers in volume.

Is there a minimum order for DTF transfers?

No. Order a single transfer by size or a full gang sheet; there is no minimum and no setup or artwork fee. You only pay for the size you order.

What sizes are available?

DTF Transfers by Size are ordered to your chosen dimensions, and gang sheets come in multiple sheet lengths so you can scale from a few designs to bulk production. Exact size and length options appear on each product page.

How is DTF transfer pricing calculated?

Pricing is based on the size of the transfer or gang sheet you order; larger sheets cost less per design because the film is used more efficiently. Current rates are shown on the by-size and gang sheet product pages.

What file format should I upload?

Upload a PNG with a transparent background for raster art, or a vector file (PDF, AI, SVG, or EPS) for logos and text. Artwork should be at least 300 DPI with the background fully removed for clean, accurate prints.

How long does production take?

DTF transfers are produced in 1–2 business days after artwork approval. Local orders are ready for next-day pickup at our Richardson facilities, and U.S. shipping times depend on the carrier and destination.

What fabrics can I press DTF transfers onto?

DTF works on cotton, polyester, tri-blends, fleece, canvas, nylon, and denim, in light or dark colors. This wide compatibility is the main advantage of DTF over DTG, which performs best only on cotton.

What heat press settings should I use?

Pre-press 5–10 seconds, then press at 300–320°F (260–270°F for polyester) for 10–15 seconds with medium-to-firm pressure. Peel per the included instructions, then finish with a 10–15-second cover press for durability.

How durable are DTF transfers after washing?

With proper care, cold wash, turned inside out, no harsh bleach, no high-heat tumble, DTF prints stay vibrant for 50+ washes without significant cracking, peeling, or fading.
